Recently in a conversation, the topic of weight loss came up. Within this conversation, the topic of fat consumption came up. Particularly popcorn with butter or popcorn with olive oil and the best quote that I have heard about fat was this.

Single Parents

I don't know how single parents do it. I have to be a single parent from time and time and one of the things that gets me through is knowing that I have an end date when Chris gets home. Looking at the calender, the next two years are going to be on the lonely side. I also have a great family support system when Chris is gone, so I really don't know how people go it alone. I just want to say thanks to my mom and dad for helping out with our crazy lives and needs!

This year we mailed out a few Christmas cards with an update on our family, so for those that haven't arrived yet or those that I forgot to send, here is the letter and a picture from our visit to see Santa :)

It has been a busy year for the Isbell family. We started the year with a three week old and she has kept us on our toes all year long. Josephine turned 1 last week and we are so blessed to have her in our family. Here is our family in review:

Josephine is the baby of the family and has three older sisters, but has managed to steal the show and gets lots of attention. At 8 weeks old, she had stopped eating or thriving. After blood tests, she was rushed to Primary Children’s Medical Center on a helicopter. After 2 days in the PICU and another 4 in the hospital she was doing much better. I have never been so happy to have a baby smile at me. She had urinary reflux in both of her kidneys and had a very serious kidney infection. After leaving the hospital, she took antibiotics on a daily basis, and one additional minor procedure until October when she got her tubing rebuilt to term it simply. She spent two more days in the hospital. Today she is 21 lbs and healthy! She is close to walking and can get into the bathroom to empty the toilet roll faster than any baby I have seen. As for her medical condition, the doctors will continue to follow her for the next year, but we are anticipating no further procedures or medications.

Lilly is two. Do I need to say more? She is so very sweet, but she does not like it when she doesn’t get her way. She learns new words every day. We are working on getting her to say the first part of her words as she always has her binkie in her mouth. Lilly loves her blankies, bottles and binkies. She has every comfort she can carry at any one time. Since Josephine stole many months out of her baby time by joining the family just 17 months after her, we let it go. Lilly is getting close to being potty trained. She wants to go to school with her older sisters, but will have to wait one more year.

Annabell is 4 and is sweet and caring. She started pre-school this year and is doing great. They sing lots of songs in preschool and she walks around singing them all day long. She also started speech therapy and has mastered her “C” and “G” sounds. Hopefully she will be all ready for Kindergarten next fall.

Lexie turned 7 this year. She is in the 2^nd grade and is excelling in math and is almost caught up in her reading skills. She is learning fast and growing even faster. She still manages to wear out the knees of her pants though before she out grows themJ.

Chris graduated from the University of Utah and is continuing his search for a full time mechanical engineering job. In the meantime, he has been busy switching to the Washington State Air National Guard and is preparing to go to Officer Basic Training or AMS in January. We are going to miss him, but are very proud of our soon to be lieutenant in the Air Force. He also started his own rock chip repair business and works a part time job as well. All the rest of his free time is spent carpooling the kids to school and playing soccer. He is a very good goalie and his teammates don’t know he has only been playing that position for the past year.

I am still working full time at XanGo and am very grateful for an excellent job in these economic times. Most of my time is spent trying to keep up with our energy filled girls. We have been very blessed this year and are looking forward to another busy but wonderful year ahead of us.

Schultz Christmas

As tradition holds, Schultz Christmas fell on the 21st this year. We all got to open our presents from my parents and then each kid and grandchild buys a present for their "special" person and those presents get opened as well. My kids loved it and I got to put together the cute kitchen set from my sister. It was mass chaos and tons of fun!

Croup

Josephine isn't happy to be at the ER at 1 in the morning, come to think of it, neither was I.

Our family has experienced another first. We have never had the illness croup before in our household and leave it to Josephine to bring out a first. At 1 in the morning she and I bundled up to go out in 2 degree weather to go to the local emergency room. She woke up coughing so loudly and not like a cough I had heard before, but the scary part was that it seemed very hard for her to breath so we headed out in the wee hours of the morning and went to the ER to get some oral steroids and 2 hours under the humidifier tube. I never knew that cold, wet air was the help for croup. I did menthol, hot moist air trying to help her out, but with no improvements. Currently we are keeping our house at a nice cool 67 degrees as Annabell started barking, I mean coughing today.

At least now I can say that I recognize croup, I know it can take anywhere from 2 to 6 days after exposure to spread, I know that taking your kid outside in the freezing cold weather is better than a hot bath. I guess I can still learn new things :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Since I just completed two months worth of blogging, I thought I would go ahead and get ahead. We got these cute Thanksgiving treats from Chris' mom yesterday so I thought I would use them to say Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Each turkey treat was unique and enjoyed! It was a close call last night when we came in and found the bathroom stool in the kitchen and sitting on the floor below the counter where the turkeys were waiting consumption and a missing Lilly. But she only made off and consumed Josephine's cookie so tears were avoided, but I am afraid that Lilly's blanket did not make it out unharmed. It was covered in chocolate and I hope the smell of chocolate made for sweet dreams because I was not willing to fight the issue of washing it right before bedtime :).

I really do have so many blessings and am thankful for many things!

Guard 2 - XanGo 0

XanGo employees have a soccer team and played the National Guard team. The only person I know on the Guard team is Chris and I know almost all of the players on the XanGo team, but don't worry, I cheered for the Guard and it payed off! They have played two games so far :)

The Joy of Homeownership

Sometimes home ownership is not fun! Our water main sprung a leak! It took Chris about a week to dig holes deep enough and in the right spot to find the leak and when he found it, he found it!

We were lucky that there was no damage to our house. Chris was able to do the job with the help of brothers and a nephew! Thanks for all the help guys in saving us thousands! When we bid it out to a plumber the bid was over three thousand dollars for them to do it, but with lots of manual labor and technical advise from others and Trent's help it cost us less than $100 :) :) :).

The surgery took a little over 3 hours and of course I was a nervous wreck the whole time waiting, but I tried not to show it. Josephine was such a trooper. Her surgery was delayed by 2 hours prior to starting and she didn't even cry totally food deprived for the whole day, but she made up for it afterward and drank lots and lots of bottles!

For past post followers, Josephine has/had Stage IV Urinary Reflux and spent some time in the hospital in the beginning of this year. The surgery has come and gone and she is doing great. We thought the surgery would slow her down at least for a day, but little did we know that baby loratab brings out bravery in a 10 month old :) She had surgery on the 6th of October and stayed for 2 days at the hospital. For her surgery they reconstructed her urethras and reinserted them into her bladder. We have her followup testing next week to find out if she is all done! She is healthy and happy and growing like crazy! I wish all babies were as sweet and kind as Josephine is!

Annabell started preschool today and was so excited. She was already up by the time I drug myself out of bed at 7. She quickly got herself dressed, let me fix her hair and quietly ate her breakfast while I got Lexie ready for school. She found her own backpack and was ready to go. I am very excited for her to start the road of education and learning and so is she. I hope it doesn't wear off too fast :).

Stage IV bilateral Urinary Reflux - Surgery Scheduled

Josephine had her follow-up tests yesterday which included a VCUG and a renal ultrasound. She still has stage IV bilateral urinary reflux. This is not something she is going to grow out of, but it is repairable with surgery. She is scheduled for surgery next month. She will get cystoscopy, ureterolele extursion and a left ureterectomy. Basically they are going cut out her urethras from the bladder and re-insert them into her bladder. She will probably be in the hospital for 2 days and then she can go home. She is growing bigger everyday and is a happy, healthy (besides her urinary system piping) little lady.

Lillian's Surgery

Yesterday was a long day with Lilly getting a cystoscopy (bladder scope) and then an injection of a bulking agent into her bladder wall. Lilly has / had Stage II Urinary Reflux on her left side. Thankfully it was a quick procedure, but the waiting time was long. She went a whole day without eating and she was a trooper. She didn't cry until after the procedure.

Most of the day was entertaining a hungry 2 year old :)

Post surgery recovery. It took us a while to persuade her to drink fluids. She did not like being tethered with an IV, but they couldn't take it out until she drank some fluids. But every time she saw the IV she got so mad that she wouldn't drink anything. But eventually we got her to drink some Gatorade and we got to go home :)

After some soup for dinner and some juice, water and milk she was playing and happy again :). I am so grateful for the talented doctors and nurses at Primary Children's Medical Center!

Today is Lexie's first day of 2nd Grade :). I am not really the parent that counts down to school. I prefer the lazy days of summer. Maybe that is why Lexie has probably lost all of what she learned last year in school.

Chris and I have a very different attitude with Lexie and schooling. I think it goes back to the fact that I had a hard time in school until High School ok, maybe until college. I did alright, but reading was always so hard for me. Chris expects hard work and perfection and I am just happy she likes to go to school. I hated it as a kid and had bad attendance, but not my Lexie! Annabell will be starting preschool in the next couple of weeks and it will be fun to have two kids in school, but it is so much more work for me in the mornings during school. They grow up too fast!

Suprise

So my birthday is in a little over 2 weeks from now, but Chris and the girls decided to get me an early birthday present. It was a total suprise and we hadn't even really talked about getting a second dog anytime this decade. I am still not in love with the idea of having two dogs and one of them is an 8 week old puppy. But I can say that she is cute and sweet and didn't even bark on her first night in our home.

So the question remains, what should we name her? I am thinking of Mimi. She is a mini aussie and looks just like Zoe, but will be about half her size when she is full grown.

New Tooth

Josephine got her first tooth on Sunday :) She got one on the bottom left :)

Unfortunately the process of teething has not been a good one. We took her to the doctor yesterday and she has a breakthrough infection :( :( :( What that means is that she has an infection even though she is on a daily antibiotic. So the treatment is a full dose of a stronger antibiotic and more tests upon the completion. Chris and I are hoping she can get her surgery next month so that she can just be all better.

Just a recap, Josephine has stage IV urinary reflux and hydronephrosis in both kidneys.

We had a fun time with my mom and dad on Utah Lake boating. The girls had a fun time and Lilly is fearless when it comes to tubing!

The Hogle Zoo had free admission to the zoo for military personnel so it was fun to go to the zoo and not feel guilty for only making it for 3 hours. The girls loved seeing the animals. I even managed to not shed a tear at the sight of the bald eagle. It was close, but I made it. I am so grateful to live in a country where I have so many freedoms. I am very proud to be a military wife and am thankful for all of our countrymen and women who protect my freedoms each and everyday.

We had fireworks at David's house this year and it was fun to sit and watch the show!

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July this year, I know that we did!

Josephine is 6 months old

I can't believe my baby is 6 months old already. Her stats are much better than her 2 month and 4 month appointments. She is developing very fast right now. She is an expert roller-over and bath splasher. She can also sit up for about a minute on her own. I fear that she sees all of us on the move and wants to join us. . Watch out dog, because here she comes :).

We blessed Josephine on Sunday with all 6 of my brothers in the blessing circle and almost all of my brothers-in-laws. Josephine is named after my father's mother and has my mom's middle name so we asked my dad to do the honors of blessing our baby Jo Jo. I only shed a few tears during the blessing and tried to write frantically to keep a record of the blessing. Unfortunately my pen did not want to cooperate, but I got most of it. I have been so fortunate to have my four beautiful and healthy girls. I hope that Josephine lives up to her name and her family heritage throughout her life.

Chris's Mom made each of her 8 grandchildren a doll. She has an amazing talent of making bears and dolls for my girls. I love that Josephine is smaller than her doll. Each one was unique and similar to the children. As to be expected Lexie has named hers "Little Lexie" and then we have "Little Bella" by Annabell :)

They are so cute and cudly that "Little Lilly" can also double as a pillow.

Is this smile worth it? I went to the dentist this last Saturday and once again I have two cavities :(. Thankfully Lexie and Annabell had a perfect check-up. At least they have teeth like their daddy who also had a clean check-up. Besides always getting my teeth drilled out, the next most annoying thing is when the dentist asks me if I want to do something about my lovely white spot on my front tooth. The answer is always, no, but they never fail to ask and then scratch it one more time, I think, just for the fun of it. I have had my white spot on my front tooth since before I was 8 years old. It is just a part of my smile and that is the way I want to keep it :).

These pictures are for you Grandma :). My mom's cat had three cute little kittens that my girls are in love with. On Sunday we had a hard time finding the kittens as the momma cat like to hide them. But after 10 minutes of searching the house, yard and garage, Chris found them behind a dresser in the spare bedroom in the basement. Lexie was going to name them all, but I didn't get the names from her. I know she wanted to name one of them cry baby because she kept crying when she was alone, but I can't remember which one :). We really have to watch Lilly with the kittens as she likes to hold them, but she is only 1.

So Josephine has been eating food for a few days now. I can't believe she is 5 months old already. She likes to eat, but I fear the orange stains that have started and I know will continue. So far she has had rice cereal and carrots. Yum :)

KSL classifieds

Have I ever mentioned that I love KSL classifieds? If not, it is true. If you ever need to purchase anything, look there first. As well if you need to sell things, it is a great resource. This past Saturday, we sold all 5 of our puppies. We posted an add on Friday night around 10 pm and by Saturday at 7 pm, the last of our 5 puppies was sold and Sunday morning the last puppy was taken to his new home. Zoe is still adjusting to being a mother dog without puppies, but I think she is enjoying being allowed in the house again. The girls aren't afraid of getting their ankles bit when going into the back yard, but we do miss the puppies. Now we just need to sell our 6 ft luvsac. Do you want one? It is in great shape. But seriously, buy and sell locally through KSL classifieds :). We have purchased a trampoline and elliptical machine from KSL and have been very happy with our purchases.

Dear Blog readers,

I am sorry for the lack of posting recently. I have taken many pictures and planned many times to blog about all the things that have happened this last month, but alas, I never got them off of the camera and thus I continued to wait and wait to blog and now a full month has passed. here are some exciting things that have happened:

Josephine was almost in the 3rd % for weight at 4 months weighing in at just under 11 lbs
Josephine had a good post procedure follow-up with her urologist
Easter was fun with the girls, they each got yo-yos
We have sold all of the puppies (actually sold them in one day)
I have decided as of today, I am taking control of my waistline again and not waiting for the stress in my life to decline
Chris took out the cherry tree in our front yard
Went on two business trips, one to Las Vegas, NV and one to Burbank, CA
I am a week done with having a nursing baby
Chris has gotten up in the middle of the night with Josephine 4 times now :) :) :) :)
Had a good mother's day yesterday

So that is the bullet point version of my life for the past month

So my sweet little Annabell thinks she can read now. It is rather funny. The first time was about a week ago when she was grocery shopping with Chris and her job was to keep track of the shopping list. After shopping for a while, Chris asked her what else was on the list. She then took her finger to the list and said "a little more chocolate milk" So Chris asked, "really, chocolate milk?" Without hesitation Annabell responded by showing the list and picking a word and says "yes, it says here a little more chocolate milk." Of course chocolate milk was not on the list, but she decided it was. Then last night I was getting her dressed in her princess pajamas and she points to the label and runs along the words and says "it says mommy needs to button." I was cracking up. So my 3 year old has decided she can read, it is just very convenient for her that the words seem to be just what she wants :).

Confession

So I feel a bit guilty about what I did yesterday, but then again, not enough to confess to my boss, so I am going to confess on my blog :). In honor of April Fools Day, I decided to disconnect my boss' network cable from his laptop docking station. So while he was away at lunch, I entered his office and pulled the plug. I was planning on telling him later that day, but I couldn't do it. Instead I saw him rant and rave about how everyone elses computers were working and help desk didn't know why his was not. I still think it was a funny and mostly harmless prank, but I had to get my confession off my chest. If you know my boss, please don't rat me out :)

Then comes the early morning. Josephine and I got up at 3 am to get all of her feeding done by 4 am, because that was the last she could eat before her procedure at 8 am. She fell asleep on the way to the hospital in the car and we almost made it all the way to the procedure without her screaming from hunger, but the doctor was running late and she started crying at 8:05 am and she did not want her binkie.Getting checked in was smooth and easy.

Look at how cute she was in her hospital gown. She only got the top because she was so small.

It took Josephine a while to wake up after her cystoscopy and incision of ureterocele, but after about 35 minutes I got her to eat, but you can see, she wasn't all the way awake.

By a little after 11 am we were on our way home with a sleepy but otherwise happy baby. She has been good since coming home and she really isn't supposed to have any recovery time except the 24 hours to get the narcotics out of her system.

This was the first and minor surgery to get Josephine all the way better. The next surgery will be in about 6 months and won't be as fast and easy, but then she will be all better.

Josephine's follow-up visits

Josephine had her follow-up appointments yesterday with her urologist and nephrologist. the girl has more specialists than I hope to ever have. Anyway, the appointments were good to meet with the docs, but nothing new was discussed. Josephine is up to 8 lbs 8 oz :) and is happy and healthy. She has a renal ultrasound tomorrow which will hopefully give us a better idea of her upper collecting system on her left kidney. If it is totally blocked, then she will most likely have to have a minor surgery to open it up and then we are still looking at surgery around 12 months old to get all of her other piping fixed. For now, we are still working on fattening her up and keeping her on her antibiotics.

I am a big girl

So Lilly has always thought she was a "big girl" trying to keep up with her two older sisters. We discover new talents all the time that we didn't notice developing, like the first time she came up the stairs from the basement since her sisters left her behind. I guess that is what happens to the third born. On Saturday Lilly went pee pee on the potty for the first time. We really aren't in potty training mode yet with her, but she woke up from her nap with a dry diaper so I thought I would give it a try. She sat on the big potty with no potty training seat at all. We only had to sing two songs before the look of shock on her face came and then pure joy when we cheered. I am looking forward to warm weather so she can run around naked and get potty trained!

Oh to only have one child in diapers . . . . . . . . .

I am very grateful for health insurance today as I added up Josephine's bills from this last month. She is up to a little over $32,000 in medical bills. Thankfully I am not going to have to pay that much. As well as I know that there are more to come. I don't know what we would do if we didn't have insurance.

Josephine finally made it to a new weight class. She has joined the 8 lb fighters for her Friday night fight ;). This last week she gained half a pound and we are very happy. She doesn't have to weigh in again next week, and then the following week she has to go back to Primary Children's to meet with the urologist and the nephrologist. Josphine has still not made it back to the % chart at 0.24% for her age, but at least she is gaining weight at a better rate. In no time she is going to be chubby!

The puppies have joined our family! Last night Chris and the girls put the whelping box together just in time. I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed last night a little before 11 pm when Chris and Zoe come busting out of the bedroom with Chris yelling "Heidi, get the puppy!" I was a little confused at first and then upon entering our bedroom I found a small black puppy on the carpet. I picked up the puppy and headed for the kitchen. By 3:30 am Zoe had her 5th and final puppy. It was a long night for me, but I love being a part of the birth of babies, even if it is puppies. I will get better pictures of the puppies shortly.

The girls are very excited to have puppies in the house, but I think Lilly might be a little jealous of the attention they are getting instead of her. Which is interesting, because she didn't get jealous when Josephine came home, so maybe she will get over it soon.

Expectant Mother

Don't worry, it isn't me! Our dog Zoe is expecting 5 puppies :). They are due next week and we are very excited. I am mostly excited because it is only 5 puppies. Her last litter, she had 11 puppies, so I think 5 is going to be easy-peasy!

Weight Check

Josephine has to go in for weekly weight checks and weighed in this morning at 7 lbs 11 oz. She is gaining weight, but not at an optimal rate. She must continue on with weekly weight checks. I feel like she weighs in every Friday morning for her Friday night fight or something. We have had to stop adding oil to her bottles because she doesn't keep anything down when there is added oil. She also won't eat more than 2 oz at a time. I guess I just have to keep doing my part of eating lots of extra fat! Training Table last night helped me achieve that last night. Thankfully Josephine doesn't act hungry and is sleeping great and acts just like a healthy, happy baby so I am not concerned at this time.

Lilly had her 18 month well-baby check today (she is 19 months right now) which included two immunization shots. Lilly was as calm as could be for her examination with the doctor and very cooperative. Her stats are:

Weight - 22.27 lbs (16%)
Length - 33.5 in (88%)
Head circumference - 17.75 in (11.5%)

The best part about my tall skinny little one was when she got her shots. I was worried that her excellent behavior would be over. But instead she sat still and moaned slightly when the shots went in the second one more so than the first. Then she said "ouch" and proceeded to thank the nurse with her very cute "thank you." Then we walked out. I really am lucky to have such a happy, well-behaved little lady.

Why I don't usually go to the doctor

So yesterday when I got home from work, Lilly was running a fever. After being in the hospital for a week, I am slightly paranoid, so I called the doctor's office. 1 hour later, I was on my way in with Lilly to meet with the PA. Lilly weighed in at 23.5 lbs and a temperature of 99.7. The diagnosis was a sore throat and a go home. So when does a sore throat that is not strep cause a fever? I always leave doctor's offices so frustrated whenever I go in. I think this is why I waited so long with Josephine because it seems like 9 out of 10 times I have been told to just give the kid some Tylenol and wait for a few more days. It seems like no one cares unless it is to the point of life or death. Why is that?

Poor little Lilly was still running a fever this morning. It always makes me so sad to see my little ones lethargic and not feeling well.

Home sweet Home

I am glad to say that we got home yesterday from the hospital. Josephine slept great last night (that is she only got up twice) and she nursed great. I am happy to say that I am under doctor's orders to eat more fat :). We also are supplementing her bottles with a 1/2 tsp of olive oil. I had never heard of doing that before, but it makes sense to get Josephine fattened up. We can't all make cream like some people I know, but I can increase her fat intake by adding olive oil. She is home with a daily dose of antibiotics, vitamins and extra iron. I have also added probiotics to her daily supplementation to help her digestive system survive the antibiotics. It is weird that a whole week has passed since she was admitted to the hospital. I have images and memories from this experience that I don't want, but then I have so much gratitude for my blessings. I am so grateful for the health of my baby girl and for experts who saved her life. I am grateful to know what caused the problems and grateful that she is out of pain and the treatment is relatively easy. I have so many blessings in my life!

It looks like our hospital stay will be coming to an end!

Josephine and I will be going home tomorrow :) I don't know if she is as excited as me about the idea of sleeping in my own bed, but I am sure she will be happy to get home too. We are just starting to schedule all of the follow up appointments and figure out her prescriptions and making sure we understand what her follow-up care will be.

Chris and Bella came to visit us today and Annabell helped give Josephine a bath and held her for a long time. I have more pictures of the other girls visiting on Sunday, but I still don't have a way to get them off of the camera so phone photos is what I am working with. I also got a visit from my mom which was very nice!

Stage IV Urinary Reflux

The diagnosis on our precious little lady is stage 4 urinary reflux. The initial cause for her hospitalization was a very bad kidney infection. She will be treated with antibiotics for the upcoming months and if the problem does not fix itself, then surgery around 1 year of age. It is nice to know the cause and understand how to help her not end up in the hospital again. Thank you all again for your many thoughts and prayers!

Jospehine update

Josephine had a diagnostic test today, a VCUG where they tracked her flow of urine from the bladder. It appears that Josephine has reflux in both of her kidneys. We are not sure what that means in the way of treatments yet, but the radiologist said that it is going to have to be aggressively treated. We should find out more this evening. Just keeping this updated. I will let you know more as we know more. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I am happy to say that she is happier too!

Josepine has been moved out of the PICU and we are happy she is doing well. It will probably be 4 or more days that she will be in the hospital as we try to find the cause of her illness.

We have found out so far that she has irregular kidneys from an ultrasound and now we have to see what else and what can be done to get her all the way better and keep her that way :)

Baby Josephine has been sick for the past little while and is currently in the PICU. The begining signs were looking like renal failure, but her kidneys are functioning well at this point. She has some kidney problems and the doctors are just trying to diagnose the cause of her problems, but Josephine is currently stable and doing well.

Earlier today she was nursing well and she even smiled at me. She has never been a smiley baby and I think it might be due to her kidney problems, but I got more smiles today than ever before. I totally cried. She is such a sweet little baby.

Lexie had informed her it was Presidents day and she was very excited. We didn't fully understand until she shouted "Happy presents day, where are my presents?" Ear Infections

Baby Josephine is suffering from both ears having infections. Babies who are 2 months old are not supposed to get ear infections yet and the doctor is very worried about her and so am I. She has been losing weight and only weighed in at 7 lbs 5 oz at her 2 month appointment, less than 1 percentile. The ear infections are causing her not to eat and it breaks my heart. We are hoping the antibiotics start working soon! I will let you know how she is doing soon.

Is 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep too much to ask for? I could really use 6 to 8 hours, but I am willing to settle for 4 hours. It has only been 2 months since I have gotten to sleep for 4 hours straight. And I wonder why I can't remember my name sometimes.

Last night Lilly decided that sleeping was not an option. I was up with her from midnight until 2 and then I got Chris up and he was up with her screaming from 2 - 4:30 and I took over again with finally putting her in the crib (which she has been out of for the last month) to sleep a little after 5 am. I am going to say that I am not very well rested today. My eye is even twitching :). Oh the joys of motherhood. I just keep trying to remind myself that someday I will get to sleep again. I know it isn't tonight, but someday in a few years, right?

It is worth it though, right? :)

graduate at last!

I am happy to announce that Chris received his college diploma in the mail yesterday! We are very excited for him to be done with school. Now, if anyone knows any good, really high paying jobs for mechanical engineers, please let me know! The journey of this degree has been a long road with 4 children, basic training, tech school, Kuwait to name a few of the major road bumps along the way, but it is over at last!

I am very proud of Chris and the countless hours and stress that has been endured to achieve his degree.

My recommendation to all the girls and boys out there, get your education and then meet your spouse, it is much easier to get through school when that is all you have to do! I had it easy :)

I know this is a few days late, but I wanted to wish everyone a Very Happy New Year! I have been very blessed this past year. In 2008 I was proud to have a husband serve our country in Kuwait for 4 months and come home safely. I was blessed with a new baby girl as an early Christmas present. I have had so much support, help and love given to me and my family this past year that I know that I have been very blessed.

Hopes for 2009:

Get at least a 4 hour block of sleep, sometimes (Maybe get a 6 hour block of sleep)
Lose the extra 15 lbs that I gained due to my sweet new family addition and my own indulgences
Lose the additional 20 lbs that I normally have
Be a more supportive and more loving wife and mother

I have decided that I am in need of some sleep, but I know that it is still going to be a while. Josephine is a good sleeper for a newborn. She sleeps around 4 hours at a time at night, but I still find it hard to get enough sleep when I have to wake up for an hour after 4 hours and then the kids usually get me up within 3 hours after that. I miss the days of only 1 child that I could take naps with during the day. The whole sleep when your baby sleep, just doesn't work when there are other children involved. Good thing I love my kids as much as I do :)

I am happy to announce that little Josie has joined the world tonight. Josephine was born at 6:25 pm weighing in at 6 lbs 13 oz and 19 inches long. I am feeling great that it is over. If you want to know the birth story keep reading :)

I rolled over this morning at 7 am to have my water break (what a weird sensation, I have always had my water broken by the doctor well into labor). Chris and I got to the hospital around 10 am with no contractions occurring, but we wanted to get the antibiotics started because I am a carrier for beta strep. After a long day of hanging out at the hospital. I got a pitocin drip at 4 pm and little Josie came at 6:25 pm. It was a rather crazy birth. The doctor didn't show up until about 15 minutes after the birth and during the delivery there were nurses everywhere. Even after Josephine was out, I wasn't really sure what was going on, but things settled down and we are both doing well. I will get pictures posted as soon as I can, but that is the story. Just a side note, I think if I have to get induced again, I might really consider getting some pain meds :). We will see, maybe it is just too soon after delivery to talk about stuff that like. I still can't believe that I have 4 little girls. She is soo cute!

There was a few minutes of white fluffy snow falling today and it made me feel excited for Christmas. I am not ready for the holidays yet, but I am finally getting excited! Now I just need to get my parasite out of my belly! I just wish she would make an appointment in my outlook so I could plan accordingly. The not knowing when, is one of the hardest parts of these last few weeks of pregnancy for me.

Full Term

I am officially full term. I am still not sure if I am ready for this little one to join our family yet. Lilly doesn't like sleeping in her toddler bed, but Annabell does :). So I don't have a free crib yet, but we do have a basinet so there is still time. I am uncomfortable and sleep deprived, but I know the sleep deprivation of a newborn is much more extreme. We still don't have a name or carseat yet. But really for being pregnant and at the end of my pregnancy, I am doing pretty good, but I still like to complain.

As of today I am officially 1 month away from my due date. I still haven't decided if this is a good or a bad thing. I am excited to not be pregnant anymore. Sometimes I even miss the sight of my own feet. My arms are getting shorter by the day as everything both high and low is out of my reach. I am excited to meet my little girl, but I am not excited about getting up every 2 hours. We have no idea how we are going to have the other three girls sleep within the two rooms, but I am sure we will figure it out.

Babies position: sideways (hoping she decides to turn head down before next appt)

Why is it that men always seem to know exactly the WRONG thing to say to a pregnant person? Is it that pregnant women are more sensitive and so non-offensive comments are taken wrong? I really don't think so!

Just today, I took the elevator up to get a cup of ice (we have the good small ice available here at work :)) and I fill my cup up and then get on the elevator to go down. And what is the comment I get for that...

"Are you practicing the ice chip thing already?"

Why even say it? That isn't even close to the worse comment I have gotten, but I just want to put the word out:

Please don't make any comments! I don't want to hear how big I am, how round I am, if I am going to pop anytime soon, I don't need you to tell me!

Who knew Dora panties could be a powerful source of motivation. Last week I bought Annabell some new panties as we were working on potty training again. Since we bought Dora panties, she hasn't had any accidents. She even woke up dry this morning and went potty on the toilet. When we tell her not to have any accidents her reply is simply..."Mom, I don't have accidents anymore!"

Woo Hoo! I was getting worried about having 3 kids in diapers in December, but it is looking like there will be two :).

Sorry to be such a blog slacker. Life has gotten away from me. This seems to be my motto these days. I don't know how the time goes by with out me doing all the things I plan on doing. So life is getting ready to settle down, at least I hope so. We are back from a long drive to Kansas for Grandpa Howe's funeral. The map quested 16 hour drive took us 19 both ways. We drove straight through to get out there, but took two full days to get home. The girls were amazingly good for the drive. Annabell was the most rowdy of the group begging to go home all the way out there and asking why we were going home and not to grandma's house all the way home.

We are happy that Chris is home and safe! The girls love having their daddy home to wrestle with. Even Lilly gets in on the wrestling. Chris is back to school as of today and we hope that he will be able to catch up and finish up this semester in style. I can't say it is going to be an easy one with starting out a few weeks late and then me having a due date the week before finals. Either one of those things makes for a tough semester, add them together and we will have to wait and see :)

Other things that have happened is I turned 32 years old. I don't know why, but 31 didn't seem too bad, but 32 sounds old to me. I keep trying to figure out what I am going to be when I grow up, but even that seems to be going on without me before I make my decision.

We are excited for Chris' return tomorrow night. For those who haven't heard, he is finally coming home! There is so much to do that I really should be doing it right now. I have more projects than hours in the day for things to be perfect for his return. But I guess he left with everything not perfect around the house and I wouldn't want to disappoint :) We had fun tonight making some signs for the house and for the girls to hold at the airport. Lexie was a serious colorer and you will see from the video below that Lilly and Annabell didn't spend all their time coloring, but they did have a good time at it!

Grandpa Howe

Grandpa has been found as of last night. He was found in a nearby cornfield by the farmer who was harvesting his corn. We are sad that he has left this world, but we are glad that he has been found. Of the short time that I have known Grandpa Howe, I know that he died on a farm like he wanted to and probably enjoyed the conspiracy around finding him in the end. I can see him chuckling in heaven at all the excitement.

I bribe Annabell with M&M's or cookies to go pee pee on the potty. After dinner this week she said she had to go potty so we ran for the bathroom and she made it. So the girls got a treat. birthday party dilema

Lexie went to a friend's 6th birthday party last night and we had some lessons learned. After dinner we take baths and put on "going out" PJ's and load up in the van for Walmart. We go to the toy area and it is time for Lexie to pick out what present she wants to get for her friend. There are so many things she wants it takes a while to narrow it down. Finally we get this puppy in a carrier that supposedly has a magnet in its mouth so it can hold its own bone. After a few discussions we make it out of the toy section with only the one toy. But then the discussions start. We discuss jealousy and envy and how that makes us feel as I continue to tell Lexie she doesn't get to keep the puppy. At one point Lexie told me that she would rather have the puppy instead of go to the party. Finally I have her convinced of the fun of giving good presents and then morning comes of the party and the discussions start again. Finally to win the battle we started a Lexie Birthday List and the puppy was the first thing on it and all is settled again. After the party is over and Lexie returns home I asked her if going to the party was worth giving away the toy. Her response, "the party was fun and I don't even remember what present I gave." I wish I could say it was a lesson in giving for Lexie, but is was probably more a lesson in patience for me. What am I going to do when she is a teenager?

Lillian Fay Isbell turned 1 on July 19th 2008 :). I can't believe it has been a year already. We had a fun day celebrating from going to the lake with Grandpa, opening presents and eating/wearing chocolate cake :). She even got to sit facing front today!

I have come to the conclusion this week that Lexie has been watching too much TV. In the last week she has suggested two products to me that are sold on infomercials on TV. The first one was regarding the sores (aka pimples) on my face. She told me to get some of that lotion that makes all the sores go away. She said "I saw it on TV that there is this lotion that you put on and then all the sores go away." And then a few days later I was cleaning out the fridge of old leftovers and other expired foods and I was informed that I need to get the special bags so that our food doesn't go bad. I guess I need to start calling the 1-800 numbers :) or cut down the TV. If not she is going to start talking me into exercise equipment or videos ;).

Congratulations Todd and Kathy on the additional GIRL to the Johnson family. Baby sister (name hasn't been decided that I know of) came this morning at 6:48 am :)

Baby sister weighed in at 7 lbs 10 oz and is a good 20 inches long. Kathy was a champion in labor and mom and baby are doing great. I still need another nap, so I can only imagine how Todd and Kathy feel right about now.

Tonight we watched and lit fireworks at Kathy's house. Oh what a mess and chaos and fun!
You can tell at the beginning it took a while for the kids to get into it. I love the look of shock on the picture above. This year was the first year that Lexie has really enjoyed fireworks. She has sensitive ears and has never liked loud noises but she seemed to really get into it this year. Maybe not as much as her two uncles Todd and Timmy, but she enjoyed sitting on the sidelines.

Part of my dedication to the 4th of July, I got my three sweet girls all cleaned up and dressed in their red, white and blue outfits. I wish I could say that it lasted all day, but thankfully they had a few shirts to choose from. Annabell went through three different shirts before the end of the day. Lexie made it the whole day in her outfit and Lilly lost piece by piece as the day went along. Annabell and Lexie even let me fix their hair :)

With baby #4 on its way in December I thought I would spice up this pregnancy and head to the Provo Town Center Mall. Yes, it is true I did it. I paid $85 to find out that I am having another girl 4 weeks earlier than I could of found out otherwise :). It was fun to watch the DVD with Lexie and Annabell after returning home and trying to explain what they were looking at. Lexie was not happy that it is always in black and white and wants a colored one next time. Lexie has also decided on a name for this little one, Princess Flexible :). Good thing I haven't actually let her name either of her little sisters yet, but maybe this time I can be talked into it ;)

Congrats Kami and David

Baby Glen has decided to join our bright and scary world. Congratulations Kami and David on the handsome new nephew of mine. After a long, hard labor Glen decided to join our world via c-section. He was born sometime around 10:20 am weighing in at 7 lbs 13 oz and 22 inches long.

Here is me enjoying being the happy aunt just hours after the delivery.

Lexie is a natural baby holder :). Good thing since our #4 is coming in December.

And last, but not least, the proud new mom trying to regain some energy with some yummy hospital food.
